Advocacy

For me, textiles go far beyond their primary function of protection and comfort for the home and body. Throughout history, cultures worldwide have used textiles as a powerful means of communication—expressing ideas, beliefs, and stories. From the Scottish tartan and Palestinian tatreez to Ghanaian Kente cloth, textiles have long represented identity, while pieces like the Chilean arpilleras have served as bold political statements. Through knitting, embroidery, weaving, and printing, patterns, motifs, and colors become a language of their own.

This collection of eight woven banners is deeply inspired by artists who use their craft to address societal issues, as well as by young female advocates whose voices have sparked a new generation of protest. Each banner, meticulously designed and handwoven by me, tells a unique story—shedding light on some of the most pressing debates of our time.
